“Rock the Roundhouse” Benefit Concert @ Roundhouse at 110 Business Park
    Saturday: 6:00 pm – 11:59 pm

There’s a party brewing in Forks, and if you’re either a music lover or supporter of Veterans, you won’t want to miss it.

Local bands and groups from as far away as Sacramento will be converging on The Roundhouse at 110 La Push Road in Forks on Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 6 p.m. to midnight for a “Rock the Roundhouse” benefit concert to support the mission of Sarge’s Place, a transitional housing facility for homeless Veterans.

Musical groups include the local alternative band The No Nonsense Buffer from Forks, and indie band Estafets out of Sequim; Seattle electronica band Audio Numeric, and punk band Twitch Angry from Sacramento.   More groups may be added.   Anti-Nonsense Networking is bringing this fundraiser to the Forks community.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.brownpapertickets.com.  Advance tickets for the all-ages benefit concert are $20 and can be purchased at Chinook Pharmacy at 11 S. Forks Avenue in Forks, or they will be $25 at the door.

Sarge’s Place is a transitional housing project providing therapeutic care, social service referrals and connections to health care for honorably discharged Veterans on the north Olympic Peninsula.

For more information contact Cheri Tinker at Sarge’s Place 360-374-5252.

    WHEN   Friday, October 18, 2013 ● 7:00 PM

    PROGRAM TITLE

“A new neighbor on the block: Pileated Woodpeckers in Seattle’s suburban areas”

Most of us think of the Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) as a mature or even old-growth forest species. That’s why we use them as indicators of forest health. However, wildlife observers now see them migrating into the suburban areas in the greater Seattle region. Why is this? How are they doing? Are they successful, or it is just the remains of a past population, using what is left of the forest that is been taken over by housing developments?

University of Washington School of Environmental and Forest Sciences doctoral candidate Jorge Tomasevic will share his experiences with this species in this most unusual setting.

Jorge A. Tomasevic is a part of the Wildlife Science Group at the UW. He came to the United States as a Fulbright Fellow from Chile. From the cold forests of Patagonia to the arid desert of Atacama, from the native forests struggling exotic pine plantations to the heights of an island in the Pacific Ocean or up high in the Andes, Jorge has participated in several research projects dealing with the ecology and conservation of forest birds and endangered species in Chile and now in the Pacific Northwest.

Everyone is welcome; no RSVP needed for this program and no admission is charged. Funding for this presentation is provided by the Rosmond Forestry Education Fund.

Feel free to share this invitation with your friends and family. Come on by and enjoy this most interesting topic!
