Family Storytime features stories, music, rhymes, and plenty of movement and fun! Activities such as talking, reading, playing, and singing all play an important role in early childhood development. After each session, parents and caregivers will have an opportunity to visit and swap information about parenting resources in the community.

A community-wide shared reading experience, Clallam County Reads offers free, educational, and community-building events and programs during October and November related to the official selection, The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery. Stop by any NOLS branch location to pick up your free copy of The Soul of an Octopus and its accompanying reader’s guide. A limited supply of paperback copies are available at all four branches and are yours to keep or share. The book is also available for check-out at the library in other favorite formats including hardback, audio, and downloadable versions.

Free Entrance to Olympic National Park

 The National Park Service announced today that the public will be invited to experience all national parks, including Olympic National Park, without entrance fees, on four days in 2019.

The 2019 entrance fee-free days are:

  • January 21: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • April 20: First Day of National Park Week
  • August 25: National Park Service Birthday
  • September 28th:National Public Lands Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day

“National parks connect all of us with our country’s amazing nature, culture and history,” said National Park Service Deputy Director Michael T. Reynolds. “The days that we designate as fee free for national parks mark opportunities for the public to participate in service projects, enjoy ranger-led programs, or just spend time with family and friends exploring these diverse and special places. We hope that these fee-free days offer visitors an extra incentive to enjoy their national parks in 2019.”

PAWS To Read

Third Friday of the month

Forks Branch Library

Reading to a dog or other animal creates a supportive and fun environment in which readers of all ages and abilities can practice their skills with confidence and joy. Research shows that the more a child reads, the more their reading skills improve. For nervous or self-conscious readers, reading to a therapy dog can be a helpful way to practice reading without feeling intimidated or judged. Dogs from Therapy Dogs International will be at the library to listen to readers of any age and level!
