Brenda Carlsen will be signing and selling her new Childrens’ Book, “Wascana’s Amazing Journey,” at Chinook Pharmacy on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

“Wascana’s Amazing Journey” is a story about a Canada goose who is flying south for the winter with his friends and family but his wing becomes injured and he has to stay behind with a few other geese. A young boy stumbles upon him and they form a great friendship, during the long winter.

The book is geared for 3 to 9-year-olds but the story resonates with all ages.

Brenda Carlsen grew up in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada and often played along the shores of Wascana Lake. There were, and still is, thousands of Canada geese.

Brenda has been a nurse for over 40 years, 32 of those at Forks Community Hospital. She has cared for many children and adults too. She has seen tragedy but most importantly, she has seen the healing, caring, and compassion of others.

Dive Under the Sea with North Olympic Library @ Forks Branch Library
Oct 12 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Dive under the sea with the North Olympic Library System (NOLS)! Adults and teens 13 and older can experience Ocean Rift virtual reality, an immersive 360° video, using Oculus Rift and Go headsets. Explore a vivid underwater world full of life including dolphins, sharks, whales, manatees, and habitats ranging from coral reefs to shipwrecks and prehistoric seas!
Ocean Rift sessions will be held as drop in sessions at the Forks Branch Library on Saturday, October 12, from 12pm – 2pm. The Sequim Branch Library will host sessions from 1:00 – 3:15pm on Tuesday, October 22, and the Port Angeles Main Library will host sessions on Wednesday, October 23 from 1:00 – 3:15pm. Registration is required for Sequim and Port Angeles sessions. Register at nols.org, or by calling your local branch.
Using VR has potential safety concerns; participants must be 13 years or older (no exceptions). Adult participants must sign a release waiver, and participants aged 13 to 17 must have a parent signed release waiver. Waiver forms are available to pick up in advance at the library. VR programming is part of a partnership with the Washington State Library, Oculus, and the University of Washington Information School to bring educational opportunities to library
communities around the state. Additional funding for this program comes from the Friends of the Library groups.
For more information about this and other events happening at your Library, visit www.nols.org or email Discover@nols.org. The Forks Branch Library is located at 171 Forks Avenue South. The Port Angeles Main Library is located at 2210 South Peabody Street. The Sequim Branch Library is located at 630 North Sequim Avenue.
