Family Storytime

This story time series will take place Friday September 14 and every Friday through May 31, 2019

Family Storytimes feature stories, music, rhymes, and plenty of movement and fun! Activities such as talking, reading, playing, and singing all play an important role in early childhood development. After each session, parents and caregivers will have an opportunity to visit and swap information about parenting resources in the community.

The Forks Branch Library is located at 171 Forks Avenue South. For more information about storytimes and other programs for youth, visit www.nols.org, call 360.374.6402, or email Youth@nols.org.

PAWS to Read @ Forks Branch Library
Apr 19 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

PAWS to Read

Watch your child discover the joy of reading with a little help from a furry friend at the North Olympic Library System’s (NOLS) Forks Branch Library. Canine pal Tally and her trainer Sherry Schaaf from Olympic Gentle Paws Therapy Dog Club. This is for children of all ages.

Research shows that the more a child reads, the more their reading skills improve. Children are sometimes reluctant to read aloud because they feel unsure or self-conscious. Reading to a dog or other pet provides a non-judgmental audience and encourages children to read with confidence.

The Poetic Apothecary: Poems for Healing and Comfort

Forks Branch Library Friday, April 19 6-8pm

Just as a cup of tea can settle and sooth us, the right poem at the right time can be a powerful sustaining remedy.

Poet and performer Judith Adams explores poetry’s restorative powers by reciting and exploring poems that help us understand grief, fear, sadness, loss, and much more. By sharing her love of poetry, Adams encourages audiences to share poems that have deeply touched their lives and discusses how writing poetry can be a potent medicine for us all.

Free Entrance to Olympic National Park

The National Park Service announced today that the public will be invited to experience all national parks, including Olympic National Park, without entrance fees, on four days in 2019.

The 2019 entrance fee-free days are:

  • January 21: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • April 20: First Day of National Park Week
  • August 25: National Park Service Birthday
  • September 28th:National Public Lands Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day

“National parks connect all of us with our country’s amazing nature, culture and history,” said National Park Service Deputy Director Michael T. Reynolds. “The days that we designate as fee free for national parks mark opportunities for the public to participate in service projects, enjoy ranger-led programs, or just spend time with family and friends exploring these diverse and special places. We hope that these fee-free days offer visitors an extra incentive to enjoy their national parks in 2019.”
