Apr 29 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Virtual Reality (VR) is coming to the North Olympic Library System! During a kick-off event on Wednesday, March 27, adults and teens 13 and older can experience immersive, 360 degree video interactive experiences using Oculus Rifts and Go headsets at the Port Angeles Main Library.  Drop by between 5-7pm and see where virtual reality can take you!  Examples of the immersive 360 degree headset experiences include movie shorts, First Contact, Dinosaurs, The Body, America’s National Parks, Ocean Rift, Apollo 11, Mars Odyssey, Star Chart, Everest, Chernobyl, and many more!  VR experiences will be about 15-20 minutes per user and are on a first come, first served basis with a waiting list if needed.

Beginning in April, weekly VR sessions will be held at all NOLS locations.

Read and Eat Gathering @ Clallam Bay Branch Library
Apr 29 @ 6:30 pm

Do you love browsing cookbooks? Would you like a reason to learn to cook or try something new? Then join the Read and Eat Gathering on the fourth Monday of every month (except in May) at the Clallam Bay Branch Library at 6:30pm. Checkout a cookbook based on the theme then prepare a yummy creation to share at the gathering. Come hungry and ready to discuss your chosen cookbook! Bringing your own place setting is also encouraged, but not required. On Monday, April 29, the Read and Eat Gathering theme will be “Mexican Cuisine.” Here are some suggested titles for the current theme:

Mexican Today: New and Rediscovered Recipes for Contemporary Kitchens by Pati Jinich
Pati’s Mexica Table: The Secrets of Real Mexican Home Cooking by Pati Jinich
• Gran Cocina Latina: The Food of Latin America by Maricel E. Presilla
• Tacos, Tortas, and Tamales: Flavors From the Griddles, Pots, and Street-Side Kitchens of Mexico by Roberto Santibanez, JJ Goode and Todd Coleman
For more information about this and other events happening at the Library, visit www.nols.org, email Discover@nols.org, or call 360.963.2414. The Clallam Bay Branch Library is located at 16990 Highway 112 in Clallam Bay.

Children’s Day @ Forks Branch Library
Apr 30 @ 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

On Tuesday, April 30, the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) will join hundreds of libraries across the nation in celebration of El Día de los Niños (Children’s Day).  The Forks Branch Library celebration will be held from 4-5pm and feature games, music, treats, and lots of fun! Children who attend will receive a free book in honor of the holiday.

Día, is a nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds. It is a daily commitment to linking children and their families to diverse books, languages and cultures. Día is also known as El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day). Día happens year-round, since sharing good books with children should take place every day, but on April 30, libraries, community partners, and families have extra special celebrations to mark the year. NOLS has a wide range of books for all ages available in Spanish. In addition, patrons may request books in other languages from libraries around the country through the interlibrary loan service.

Additional Information This program is generously funded by the Friends of the Forks Library.  The Forks Branch Library is located at 171 Forks Avenue South. For more information about this and other programs for youth, visit www.nols.org, call 360.374.6402, or email Youth@nols.org.
