  • Molto Batali: Simple Family Meals from My Home to Yours by Mario Batali

More About the Summer Reading Program
The theme for the 2019 Summer Reading Program is A Universe of Stories. This summertime celebration, which encourages children to keep reading during the summer break from school, features a reading challenge with fabulous prizes, and a multitude of events for all ages. Research shows that children who do not read during the summer experience “summer slide” and may lose up to a month of the instructional knowledge they gained during the previous school year. Library summer reading programs have been shown to help alleviate the “summer
slide” by providing access to books, enrichment activities, and encouraging young people to keep reading. The 2019 Summer Reading Program runs June 15 through August 17.

The Summer Reading Program is generously supported by the Friends of the Library at all four NOLS libraries. For more information about the Summer Reading Program and other events, visit www.nols.org/srp, call 360.417.8500, or email discover@nols.org. The Clallam Bay Branch Library is located at 16990 Highway 112. The Forks Branch Library is located at 171 South Forks Avenue.

League of Women Voters Public Forum @ DNR Headquarters
Jun 25 @ 6:00 pm

Clallam County League of Women Voters announces candidate forum in Forks

The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Clallam County will present a free public forum at the DNR Olympic Region Headquarters, 411 Tillicum Lane, Forks, at 6pm on Tuesday, June 25, featuring candidates for Forks City Council Position 5 and candidates for Charter Review Commission, District 3.

The Forks City Council race will appear on the August primary ballot because there are more than two candidates running for this office. The top two vote-getters will advance to the general election in November.

Although the Charter Review Commission (CRC) election will appear on the November general election ballot, CRC candidates forums are being presented in all three districts this summer to give voters more time to learn about the CRC and the candidates.

City Council candidates who have confirmed their attendance are Mike Gilstrap and Christiana E. Kohout. Danny Smith is tentatively planning to attend. Charter Review Commission who have confirmed their attendance are Brian Hunter, Kenneth P. Reandeau, Rod Fleck, Therese (Tree) Stokan and Andrew T. May. Lisa Unger is tentatively planning to attend. Candidates who cannot attend have been given the option to send a representative to read their opening and closing statements.

League volunteers will video-record this forum, and within a week or two of the event, a link to the recording will be available at the League’s website: www.lwvcla.org.
